Stirling County 3rd XV 7 v Carnoustie 17 – 21/10/17 Carnoustie travelled to Stirling to play the County 3rd team. On a very wet pitch Stirling kicked off with Carnoustie gaining a penalty to put the home side under pressure. Carnoustie maintained good attacking position but Stirling solid defence prevailed until after half an hour Kevin Franco powered over for a try following a scrum. Andrew Burgess added the conversion. Carnoustie maintained an attacking position allowing Andrew Burgess to convert a penalty. With an excellent individual break Andrew Burgess crossed for the try and also kicked the conversion. In the second half Stirling dominated the ball and field position with Carnoustie making only sporadic visits to the home twenty two. Again sound defence held them out until the last minute when Stirling touched down and converted. The referee blew for full time. GREAT WIN AGAINST KIRKCALDY 2`XV
CARNOUSTIE 53 v KIRKCALDY 2`xv 15 Carnoustie got the game underway and with a quick follow up pinned the visitors in their own half. The pressure paid off with a strong drive allowing Rob Blyth to touch down and Andrew Burgess to kick the conversion. The visitors restarted and Carnoustie found themselves pinned back and be penalised. Kirkcaldy took their advantage and converted the penalty. The home side restarted and again pushed the visitors back, setting up a strong drive with Euan Fraser touching down. The conversion was missed. Kirkcaldy slowly found their driven pushed forward until a good drive and quick ball wide allowed them to open their try account and add the conversion. The visitors had better field position for the remainder of the half but failed to capitalise on it. The home side lifted the pace of the game with winger Chris Blackburn finishing off a good handling movement with a try. The conversion failed. A second try soon followed with Andrew Burgess finishing off his own chip ahead to touch down and convert. A good passage of play involving forwards and backs to make ground was finished off by Andrew Burgess touching down. The conversion was missed. The forwards then took a scrum against the head for Andrew Burgess to again touch down and Mark McQueen convert. Carnoustie finished strongly with further tries from Euan Fraser, Kyle Burwood and Andrew Burgess with Kyle Burwood adding a conversion. FALKIRK 2nd XV 12 v CARNOUSTIE RFC 29 Carnoustie travelled to Falkirk with only 15 players. The first half was tight with little movement until the home team raised the pace on the twenty minute mark putting the ball wide to score and convert. This acted as a wakeup call to Carnoustie with Jack Forster leading the way to touch down twice. Both conversions went wide. Carnoustie restarted the second half and pressed forward allowing full back Kyle Burwood to enter the line and outpace the defence to touch down with Bruce Langlands adding the conversion. Carnoustie took every opportunity to press forward with Bruce Langlands kicking well to both flanks. Quick following up by Ryan Beresford allowed him to breach the defence and touch down with the conversion added. A further kick to the corner found the defence wanting and Chris Blackburn took advantage to touch down. The conversion was short. Towards the end Carnoustie lost a player to injury and another to the sin bin giving Falkirk the opportunity to touch down. Carnoustie regrouped and held out to the end of the game. Team : K. HOME WIN AGAINST KINROSS RFC
CARNOUSTIE RFC 33 V KINROSS RFC 12 After a week without a game Carnoustie returned to league duty. The visitors got the game underway with Carnoustie fielding and driving before clearing. Carnoustie conceded a penalty allowing Kinross to play deep into home territory the Carnoustie defence stood firm. In Carnoustie’s next attack with the line beckoning they were forced into touch. Carnoustie again attacked only to drop the ball, Kinross failed to clear their lines and from a line out Carnoustie forwards drove over the line with the ball being grounded by OWEN HUGHES and converted by MARK McQUEEN. Carnoustie kicked from the restart, the follow up was strong and under pressure Kinross knocked the ball on. Carnoustie then took a scrum against the head, drove forward to touch down this time by DAVID RANKIN and again converted by MARK McQUEEN. Carnoustie returned the kick-off, regathered to set up a series of drives with the final touch down by DAVID CAMPBELL, this time the conversion was wide. From the restart Kinross attacked but Carnoustie intercepted a pass to run 50yds up field. From a subsequent scrum Carnoustie cross kicked for winger CHRIS BLACKBURN to touch down and MARK McQUEEN to convert. The half was brought to an end. Carnoustie restarted the second half which unlike the first half had little to enthuse over only coming to life in the last quarter. After a siege on the visitors line Kinross turned the ball over and raced up field, gained penalty which was tapped and touched down but with no conversion. Carnoustie reply was rapid with sound driving allowing ROB BLYTH to touch down with MARK McQUEEN adding the conversion. Kinross was not finished adding a try in the final seconds which was converted. MATCH REPORT MADRAS RFC 35 V CARNOUSTIE 43 Carnoustie travelled to St Andrews hoping to open their points account. With a much changed team Carnoustie kicked off by failing to clear the ten metre line. They won the resultant scrum and scrum half Michael Jamieson spotted a gap to race through to touch down. With conversion added by Andrew Burgess. The home side quickly retaliated to break forward and be awarded a penalty try. Carnoustie attacked again and sent winger Mitchell Whyte over to touch down. Before half time he touches down twice more with two conversions added by Andrew Burgess. On half time winger Mark McQueen touched down with conversion added. Madras kept themselves in the game with a second converted try. In the second half Carnoustie added two unconverted tries by Michael Jamieson and Mark McQueen. Madras had the better of the half with three converted tries. Start of Season 2017/18 – 40th Anniversary Year
This Saturday (26th) is the start of our 40th season. Our first match will be at home to Blairgowrie RFC. If you have no other plans for Saturday come along and support our seniors. Kick off 3pm We are looking forward to the launch of our New 40th Anniversary playing kit on the 26th. We Thank again our key sponsors. League News
Carnoustie RFC Players, Members & Followers, The club would like to officially announce that after much deliberation we will be moving back to Caledonia 2 League this forthcoming season, as was originally planned. This proposal has now been approved by the SRU & the fixtures shall follow shortly. This will allow the club to focus on building a strong team, in order to progress the following year. As a result, I would ask everyone to commit to the club as we go forward. We need to push to increase numbers at training & this task falls to every single club member. Please start speaking to folk, encouraging them to come along. This can be a great year for the club and for this to happen we need to put in the hard work & effort now. The last few weeks of Pre-season have seen an excellent input from those attending – the club would like to thank you for that. Let’s pull together now as a club & make it a team effort.
