Always a Good Day when a Win at Kinross
KINROSS 17 V CARNOUSTIE 31 Carnoustie made the short trip to Kinross for their last away game of the season with a full squad. Carnoustie kicked off with Kinross failing to gather the ball. Carnoustie snapped up the loose ball and drove forward culminating in Andrew Burgess touching down. Carnoustie continued to press forward and from the half way swept the ball wide for winger Calum Forteath to evade a despairing tackle to touch down wide out. Kinross came back and with some strong running crossed to touch down and convert. The defences then held firm to half time. In the second half Carnoustie continued to press forward with Drew Christie touching down and Andrew Burgess converting. Kinross again came back with a strong attack to touch down twice but with no conversions. Carnoustie raised their game with Danny Findlay breaking from half way to touch down with the conversion added. Finally the big forwards rumbled up field to allow Rob Blyth to touch down with Andrew Burgess converting. Carnoustie held out comfortably to take full points. Team : M. Jamieson : C. Forteath : R. CARNOUSTIE 41 v STIRLING COUNTY 3RD XV Following a very tight win in the first game another tight game was expected. The first half was tight but the second half more open. Stirling kicked off and gained an early penalty which they failed to convert. Carnoustie kick a penalty to the corner, won the line out and the ball driven over for Drew Christie getting the touch down. Stirling replied sending the ball wide to draw the defence and touch down with the conversion. Carnoustie were pushed back close to their line only for Andrew Burgess to break in his own twenty two and leave the defence for dead to touch down. Carnoustie then kicked a penalty to the corner, drove the line out for Drew Christie to touch down. Stirling then did likewise by driving a line out to touch down and convert. The Carnoustie pack won clean ball at a scrum just over half way. Danny Findlay and Andrew Burgess broke and ran the ball for Danny Findlay to touch down. The second half Carnoustie conceded an early penalty which Stirling converted. Carnoustie dominated the remainder of the game with three touch downs by Drew Christie, Jordan Donnachie and Andrew Burgess all were converted by Mark McQueen. Although Carnoustie not in the promotion race this was a well-deserved win with several excellent performances and good teamwork. MORGAN RFC 20 V CARNOUSTIE 29 Carnoustie travelled to Alloway Place hoping to beat Morgan for a second time this season. Carnoustie kicked off and Morgan fielded and ran the ball, pounding away at the line earning an early penalty which they converted. Carnoustie eventually broke the siege and Dave Rankin took a short line out ball and forced his way over in the corner, too wide for the conversion. Morgan took control to cross twice with one conversion. With half time approaching full back Mark Gibson broke from his own twenty two to run the length of the field to touch down, he also added the conversion. Morgan restarted the second half taking control to touchdown from a scrum, the conversion was missed. In the last quarter Carnoustie raised their game considerably with the back line running at their opponents to produce two tries from Andrew Burgess and one from Chris Blackburn with one conversion added. Great Win Against Panmure
CARNOUSTIE 43 v PANMURE 19 After a not having a game for 5 weeks Carnoustie were looking forward to getting back on form. Panmure got the game underway and Carnoustie immediately set out their stall with a surging attack they were held up but they continued to push forward. Panmure did set up an attack but Carnoustie turned over the ball and attacking deep saw the winger pass infield for the supporting Andrew Burgess to touch down. The conversion was missed. Panmure struck back driving through their forwards to touch down, they also missed the conversion. Although in the ascendency Carnoustie could only add a try from winger Ritchie Burton and a conversion and penalty from Mark McQueen. The second half was more open with Carnoustie adding a try from a tap penalty giving Drew Christie his first touchdown in his first game with the 1xv. A further try was added from a dropped ball by the visitors being hacked on and touched down by Andrew Burgess. Good running and handling allowed Ritchie Burton and Michael Jamieson to touchdown. All tries were converted by Mark McQueen. Panmure did not lie down and replied with two tries both were converted. Carnoustie 20 v Madras 10
Carnoustie returned to league business after a pro-longed break due to weather and the holiday period. The early stages of the game favoured the visitors who pressed forward requiring Carnoustie to defend, desperately at times. Eventually pressure told and Madras touched down but failed the conversion. Carnoustie dug in and broke the siege but although pressing were too frantic and lost several good attacking positions by failing to secure the ball. Just on half time the pressure paid off withl Keiran Murphy touching down. The conversion was missed. Carnoustie raised the pace of the game from the restart and attacked strongly to be rewarded with tries from Nathan Bowles and Ian Reid one of which was converted by Andrew Burgess. Carnoustie were again attacking well when awarded a penalty which was converted. In the final seconds of the game Madras forced their way over the line to touch down in the corner but again missed the conversion. Great Hard Game With Hillfoots
CARNOUSTIE 15 v HILLFOOTS 21 Carnoustie kicked off with Hillfoots mishandling the ball giving Carnoustie a line out which, they failed to take advantage of. Carnoustie pressed forward but with the wind at their backs put too much weight on several kicks allowing the defence to touch down. Carnoustie defended well before Mitchell Whyte made a clean break but with no support and was forced to ground. Carnoustie persevered and from a series of strong drives Craig Henderson touched down with Andrew Burgess converting. Hillfoots responded by setting siege to the home line but stout resolute defending kept them out. Carnoustie eventually cleared their lines and with play in the midfield the half was ended. Hillfoots restarted but with strong driving and consecutive penalties Carnoustie took play deep into the visitors twenty two. A further penalty was tapped and Andrew Burgess wriggled his way over the line but missed the conversion. Within a few minutes he made good by converting a penalty. Hillfoots reply was immediate, from a penalty they initially drove the ball before good handling allowed them to breach the defence to touch down and convert. As Hillfoots confidence grew so did the pace of the game and a tiring defence was broken twice more with both tries converted. Despite defeat Carnoustie can be proud of their efforts. Team : C.
